Face-to-face learning, e-learning, virtual classrooms, quizzes, social media… we have more and more teaching modalities at our disposal. The challenge is to be able to balance them in an intelligent and structured way so as to optimize learning. This is the magic formula that blended learning strives to achieve.

Although early blended learning initiatives came in for some criticism relating to their complexity or cost, for example, today’s blended programs go far beyond simply alternating optional e-learning modules and classroom sessions. Actually, those early critics were right: at the time, the way programs were structured was out of synch with the reality of learning cycles. It’s up to us, as training professionals, to move our approach forward so that we leverage the true potential of blended learning.

Today, the definition of blended learning is radically different and has been significantly expanded. When combined intelligently, the various available modalities make it possible to customize learning paths and provide learners with the support they need throughout the learning process, from pre-course assessment to final skills endorsement.

We’ve put together this guide to help you develop more effective, high-quality blended learning programs. Our advice will guide you through the various steps of the learning process: goalsetting, learning, practice, practical application and endorsement. For a blended learning initiative to succeed, everyone involved needs to think it through very carefully from the word go.
