Building solutions via philosophy

It is not Rubio’s constructing vs. philosophy that is rational, but rather constructing solutions via philosophy.

“Action without philosophy is a lethal weapon; philosophy without action is useless.” Soichiro Honda, the piston ring manufacturer, motorcycle racer and automaker said that.

Science can provide the hows, but only philosophy can provide the whys.

What can philosophy do for us in this time of anxiety and grief?

We obviously need peace.


We need it in the Middle East, in the streets of Paris and anywhere else ISIS attempts to infect with its love of fear, hatred and obliteration.

We need peace within our Congress, between Republicans and Democrats, between liberals and conservatives, in Internet comment sections, and in discussions of energy and the environment.

To bring this peace we need peace within our souls, within our mindsets.


This is what philosophy can bring.

It can bring a channeling of anxiety, of fear, of a desire to lash out at those different from us, of a desire to just solve all our problems somehow, toward a working hard on an honest understanding of the beliefs and desires of others however different they be from us. Inwardly, we’re all just fellow humans sharing the thin biosphere surrounding this rock we call earth with all the other creatures inhabiting it.

We’re all in it, on it, together.

We only have each other to work with.
