Let’s talk tech: Digital-safety workshops for kids and parents | The Villager - Technology

Arapahoe Libraries is partnering with children, parents, caregivers and the community by offering resources on how to safely navigate the internet. On Tuesday, Sept. 12, Smoky Hill Library, 5430 S. Biscay Circle in Centennial, will host two digital safety workshops, featuring Katie Greer, a nationally recognized expert on internet/digital safety and technology.

Digital safety for kids
Greer’s first workshop, which will be held from 4-5 p.m., will cover digital safety and is targeted to children ages 8-12. This program will show kids how to be safe and smart before connecting with friends online, using apps or while playing on smartphones or other devices.
During this program, Greer will empower children to make responsible choices as they become more interested in online gaming, apps and social media. She will lead a kid-friendly discussion about protecting personal information, cyberbullying and much more.

The challenge of parenting in the digital age
Later that same evening, from 7-8:30 p.m., Greer will lead a program designed just for adults. The struggle is real for parents raising kids in today’s digital world. From endless social-media channels and apps to more serious dangers like cyberbullying and “sexting,” keeping our kids safe online can feel beyond overwhelming...
