The training was part of a roadshow across the state by the Department of Public Instruction, teaching educators about technology.

Educators renewing their license on or after June 30 are required to get two digital learning competency continuing education units.

The goal is for teachers is to begin implementing more technology in the classroom.

Eva Mitchell, a kindergarten teacher in Craven County, was one of the attendees.

"Children learn by playing with certain types of technology,” said Mitchell. “If you give them the IPad, they will figure out how to use it. They are not afraid to explore."

Mitchell learned about a number of programs, including one called Seesaw, which help teachers manage IPads in class.

They are also learning how to take advantage of Google maps to teach history and geography.
