Why We Needed a Social LMS: The AMD Story

Wednesday, September 19, 2012,
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EDT

Is your organization struggling with how to leverage social learning within your overall learning strategy? Do you see the value of social learning, but aren’t quite sure how to implement it within your organization?

The reality is, every organization uses social learning, which is the informal transfer of information from one learner to another. The challenge all organizations are facing is to harness the power of social learning and formalize it so that its power can be used throughout the organization. According to Brandon Hall Group's research, 63% of organizations use social learning technologies, and 15% consider integrating these tools to be one of their top two learning priorities for the next year.

Join Brandon Hall Group’s Rachel Ashkin, Chief Operating Officer, who will present exciting findings on Relationship Centered Learning, how it’s changing the face of learning for organizations, what social learning is and the components that make up a social LMS, and AMD’s Dave Stachura, Manager of Global Sales Enablement, who will present AMD’s story of implementing social learning, through a social LMS, throughout their organization.

Key takeaways include:
  • Insights from Brandon Hall Group's research
  • Key features that encompass a Social LMS
  • The importance of having social integrated in to your overall learning strategy
  • AMD describes their social learning strategy and implementation of their social LMS to support their global organization including sales, marketing and other business units
  • AMD’s use of their social LMS to help students implement the knowledge they are learning in their coursework

The Social LMS – Fusing Informal and Formal Learning

Tuesday, September 25, 2012,
2:00 p.m. ET / 19:00 BST

In 2011, 25 percent of U.S. companies invested in informal learning tools or services. Large companies are making the heaviest expenditures, spending approximately $40,000 on average – more than 2X what they spent in 2010. Despite the growth, only one-quarter of those companies feel effective at simply blending social learning opportunities into formal programs – even fewer have mastered more complex offerings such as content sharing or expertise directories.

Standing in the way are people, process and technology obstacles. For instance, most L&D teams lack key skills to be successful; the organization at large fears the unknown consequences of opening the content sharing flood gates; and the various technology platforms available to support such activities each comes a bewildering array of risks and benefits. Key to this last question: can the Learning Management System (LMS) successfully enable formal and informal learning in one place? Can there be a Social LMS?

In this webinar, David Mallon, Vice President, Research at Bersin & Associates, will discuss the growing need for a Social LMS, the critical functionalities such a platform would have to support, and the potential benefits to your organization of implementing such a system.

Participants will learn:

  • Current trends, success cases and pitfalls in enabling a holistic approach to learning
  • Core capabilities of a Social LMS
  • Potential risks and benefits of a Social LMS
  • Guidance for selecting and implementing a Social LMS.
