The conference will focus on three topics: Matrix Methods in Statistics, Combinatorial Matrix Theory and Classical Matrix Theory, all covering the different aspects of Linear Algebra.

The Conference will provide a platform for leading mathematicians, statisticians and applied mathematicians to discuss several research issues on the topic and to introduce innovations. What the three-day event will also do is to bring experts, researchers and students together to present recent developments in this dynamic and important field.

"This is going to be a high-profile event as a number of eminent mathematicians from across the globe will be present," said Manipal University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr H Vinod Bhat. "About 30 invited speakers, many of them overseas, will deliver talks," he added.

Yet another important aspect of the conference is to stimulate research and support interaction between scientists by creating an environment for participants to exchange ideas and to initiate collaborations or professional partnerships. It is also an opportunity for young scholars to know and interact with a team of eminent scientists.

Prof Ravindra B Bapat (Indian Statistical Institute Delhi) and Abraham Berman (Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Israel) will be the chief guests for the inauguration on December 18 at 6.30 pm in Academic Block 3 of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. G.K. Prabhu, Registrar, Manipal University will be presiding over the function. About 30 invited speakers and 30 other delegates will be delivering talks in different sessions. The valedictory will be held on December 20 at 4 pm," said Dr. K. Manjunatha Prasad, Professor, Department of Statistics, Organizing Secretary- ICLAA 2014.

'Matrix methods in statistics' is a branch of mathematics containing a variety of challenging problems in linear statistical models and statistical inference having applications in various branches of applied statistics such as natural sciences, medicine, economics, electrical engineering.
