Graber, Hutch High students help each other learn | The Hutchinson News

Mary Clarkin, Reporter at The Hutchinson News says, An idiom can “spice up a paper,” Hutchinson High School Honors English sophomore Lillianna Lamagna told the fourth-grade students from Graber Elementary School students Thursday,

And bringing high school and elementary school students together to help each other learn is “a great opportunity,” said HHS Honors English 10 teacher Amber Carithers.

Graber Elementary teacher Jesse Ediger and Carithers are friends and since their schools are within walking distance, their students are taking turns monthly at hosting a learning exercise.

In September, the high school students went to Graber for a “book tasting” that had them sampling the books and identifying genres. For October’s “Classroom Connection,” Graber students toted their lunches over to eat in the high school library before they made the rounds of learning stations set up in the school library by teams of Carithers’ students...

The team of Dakota Douglas, Jonathan Fan, Wyatt Johnson, and Jalen Barlow put together a “Baby Shark” music video to help describe how to tell a story. Delighted, the fourth-graders could be seen hopping up and down through the small room’s window.

A lesson on antonyms and synonyms compelled students to circle the room to spot the piece of the paper on the floor containing the right word.
