Prentice Hall Writing Coach |
Writing Coach is atest program by Pearson that is getting a lot of use in Texas classrooms. With writing being anability that many students need to improve, the timing couldn’t be better for an educational tool like this to be developed. PHWC is an online curriculum that directs teachers and students through a sequence of activities and projects intended to strengthen writing skills in grades 6 through 12. It’s flexible, can be made to fit the student, and will likely encourage many related programs in the future.
2. Three Ring:
Increasingly, classroom interactions are taking place online and programs like Three Ring can help to make that progression a whole lot smoother. Through Three Ring, teachers can simply digitize student work, make online portfolios, and even evaluate student development. Even better, it can all be completedthrough a smart phone.
3. ClassConnect:
ClassConnect is a startup company
created by teen entrepreneur Eric Simons who spent two months living
on AOL’s campus while he created the startup. Motivated by his own
problems finding exciting lessons in high school, Simons wanted to produce a
site where teachers could more simply shake up their teaching. ClassConnect
does just that, making it easy for teachers to construct, save, and share
lessons with other teachers, their students, or the parents- which may assist
teachers in keeping the attention of quick young minds like Simons.4. 19Pencils:
19Pencils is another great emerging tool for teachers. It allows them to more simply manage and share class content. Through the site, which is still in beta testing, teachers can create a class website for posting lessons, links to other class sites, quizzes, and even fun educational exercises for students.
5. Online Learning Exchange:
This site is still in its infancy, but
has already been a big part of preliminary programs in states like Texas. Teachers
can use resources presented by Pearson to create, share, and converseabout their
lesson plans. Even better, it’s simple for teachers to supplement lessons with
videos, images, and even fun games.
These five innovative learning
applications are great for students and teachers alike. No one knows how far
they will go to help students learn better, but they offer a big step up in the
traditional teaching realm. They also make it easier for teachers to track
their student’s progress and see what additional help is needed. Overall these
innovations look to be a great boon to education.
