ADULT LEARNING GOOD FOR US ALL: Adult
educators have been on the streets during Adult Learners’ Week — He
Tangata Matauranga — to celebrate the value of lifelong learning. Adult
Literacy Turanga manager Rene Babbington (pictured) says the week is a
reminder that lifelong learning is vital for a rich, rewarding life and
worthy of a conversation. Picture by Rebecca Grunwell |
“Adult
learners of all ages and backgrounds report benefits like better
self-esteem, greater tolerance, confidence and career prospects.”
The
week incorporated International Literacy Day on September 8. This year,
Adult Literacy Turanga had a number of promotions and on Saturday in
collaboration with Ka Pai Kaiti, Adult Literacy Turanga were at the
Kaiti Mall market with activities including live music. An exhibition of
learners’ work and a free sausage sizzle rounded out the week.
