OVERSIZED schoolbags are a thing of the past for Ringwood Secondary College students, with technology replacing textbooks.
The school's 240 year 7 students began using Apple's iPad in classes when school returned last week.

College principal Michael Phillips said the iPads had replaced all but one textbook for students. "A big part of the iPad program, apart from its use in the classroom, is that we've moved text-based resources from the book list and onto the one device," Mr Phillips said.

Mr Phillips said students would be able to access the internet, electronic versions of their textbooks and iPad applications that complemented their studies.

"We talk about 21st century learning and now is the time to embrace the real power of learning through technology. I think it's important for students to have access to technology when, and where, they need it."
