The two services, Universal Learning and Learning Express, allow users to sign in and take courses at their own pace. Instruction typically includes written lessons that the user learns and reviews, followed by tests.

Offerings from Universal Learning range from math, science and business courses to lessons on the Civil War, cooking and spiritual growth. Students have six months to complete the course and may sign up for as many as five at once.
