KCC's Lifelong Learning offers course about teaching children with autism.

Kellogg Community College's Lifelong Learning department has partnered with ed2go to offer hundreds of online, instructor-facilitated courses and is pleased to announce the launch of "Teaching Students With Autism: Strategies for Success."

This course provides teachers with effective strategies for teaching students with high-functioning autism and Asperger's Syndrome. The course helps students discover the neurobiology behind the disorders and the way it affects students' behavior, learning, and thinking. During the six week course, students will learn creative, easy, low-budget strategies to help children with autism and Asperger's Syndrome succeed. Veteran educator Ellen Arnold will help the class develop the skills to counter social awkwardness, sensory sensitivities, meltdowns, problems with homework completion, language reciprocity issues, and violent fixations. The strategies taught are also helpful for any student who exhibits the above characteristics on a regular basis.
