Albert Einstein
Iconic theoretical physicist Albert Einstein wrote to The Times in 1936 alongside fellow Nobel Prize winner Erwin Schrodinger to thank England for helping displaced scholars. German-born Einstein had remained in the United States after 1933 following Hitler's rise to power.
