Become a Connected Educator in October

Connected Educator Month (CEM) kicked off on Oct. 1, and there are several weeks left of events, seminars, webinars, and more.
Participation is free, and topics range from classroom management, technology use tips, where to find resources that support technology integration, and more.
Millions of educators and others around the world have participated in hundreds of professional development opportunities as part of CEM the past two years. Originally developed by the U.S. 

Department of Education and its partners as part of the Connected Educators initiative, CEM offers highly distributed, diverse, and engaging activities to educators at all levels. Based on its success in 2012 and 2013, the initiative is poised to reach even more educators in 2014, through expanded partnerships and enhanced programming.

Apps of the Week

Identify the disease 

App name: Solve the Outbreak
What is it? Your mission, if you choose to accept, is to get clues and analyze data to solve the outbreak and save lives! In this fun app, you get to be the Disease Detective.

Best for: Middle and high school students
Price: Free
Requirements: iOS 6.0 or later; Android 4.0 and up

Features: Do you quarantine the village? Interview people who are sick? Run more lab tests? The better your answers, the higher your score – and the quicker you’ll climb the ranks to become a decorated Disease Detective. In level 1, you’ll start out as a Trainee and can earn badges by solving scenarios, with the goal of earning the top rank: Disease Detective.
Unlock Level 2 by mastering all 12 outbreaks. Then earn honors by solving new and more challenging scenarios. Earn recognitions like Surveillance Honors and Treatment Honors.
New outbreaks happen every day, and CDC’s Disease Detectives are on the front lines, working 24/7 to save lives and protect people. When a new outbreak happens, Disease Detectives are sent in to figure out how the outbreak started before it spreads further.
