What we're reading: Reviews from the Bennington Bookshop | Entertainment - Brattleboro Reformer

Apeirogon' by Colum McCann
An Apeirogon is defined as a polygon with a countably infinite number of sides writes Phil Lewis, The Brattleboro Reformer.

This seems like a contradiction, but "Apeirogon" is an apt name for Colum McCann's latest book, based as it is on the lives of Bassam Aramin and Rami Elhanan. Bassam is a Palestinian Muslim; Rami, an Israeli Jew.

What could these men possibly have in common? They share tragedy: Both Rami and Bassam have lost a daughter to the Middle East troubles. Rami's daughter, Smadar, was killed by suicide bombers. She was 13. Bassam's daughter, Abir, was shot by an Israeli patrol. She was just 10 years old.
But they share much more than the tragic loss of their children. They share a humility, a humanity and an understanding that if you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got. And they share an unlikely friendship...

Colum McCann was born in Dublin. He lives in New York, where he is a distinguished professor of creative writing in Hunter College's Master of Fine Arts program. He won the National Book Award for his 2009 novel, "Let the Great World Spin."

"Apeirogon" will be released on February 25. It can be pre-ordered at The Bennington Bookshop, or online here: https://www.benningtonbookshop.com/book/9781400069606
