Is e-management now a fad among companies?

"The most important development in business education and manpower development has been the diversity that has emerged from information technology. E-management is essentially internet enabled transfer of management skills and knowledge. This includes virtual classroom opportunities. Content is delivered via the Internet. The concept is gradually altering the training landscape by bringing experts online to collaborate on raising the skills of the workforce.", Daniel Essiet reports.

One time Director General, National Maritime Authority, now Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA),Mr. Ferdinand Agu, an architect, said the critical challenges of management demands that CEOs participate in virtual classrooms to update their skills.

He said CEOs can participate in virtual lectures from the comfort of their offices using internet connections. Students need a basic computer, an Internet connection, and a standard web browser to log on and attend class. Free software and state-of-the-art technology permit students with inexpensive webcams the option for face-to-face interaction with faculty and other students.

Agu said on line learning does not require a high level of technological sophistication, nor does it require special computer hardware or software.

He said virtual classrooms permits busy professionals to attend online lectures, and to structure their attendance around the demands of their professional and personal lives.
