The current pace of innovation depends on this up-and-coming generation of workers, according to Sarah Franklin, Forbes Councils.

Graduating college is an incredible milestone and one that deserves to be celebrated. As members of the class of 2018 embark on the next stage of their lives, I want to share an important life lesson that they don't teach in school: Graduation isn't the end of your education; it's just the beginning.

Right now, graduates are entering a booming job market defined by new innovation happening every day. The way we live, work and relate to one another is changing by the minute. As a result, it's never been more important to keep your skills current.

Today's economy requires people to be proficient in artificial intelligence, mobile app development, data science, digital marketing and categories that don't even exist yet. We can see this innovation everywhere in our day-to-day lives. For example, your face can unlock your phone, and your phone can unlock your hotel room door. Your key fob can start and even park your car.

The jobs that created, support and continue to drive these innovations were futuristic only five or 10 years ago. If this is what we have witnessed in the past few years, imagine what's going to happen next. Drones that will deliver medical supplies in war zones, the first transplant of a 3D-printed liver, new nanomaterials 200 times stronger than steel. This is just the beginning. Whether this pace accelerates or stagnates rests on the next generation. It’s up to them to continue to put a focus on learning.

With that in mind, I wanted to share a few tips with the class of 2018:
