The
Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has launched what is it
calling a “first-of-its-kind” online learning platform for engineers
and employers, as New Electronics reports.
In its latest survey, the IET found that nearly two thirds of employers struggle to recruit engineers with the right skills. As a result, it has developed the IET Academy together with industry experts.
The hope is this will support engineers who want to improve their technical skills and knowledge, whilst fitting training around their day job.
The fully interactive, online courses are available via an App and can be accessed ‘anywhere, anytime’ and are said to be divided into manageable sections, in a hope to benefit engineering companies who want to upskill and retain their workforce.
Martin Davies, Head of the IET Academy, says: “Engineers are the most in demand jobs globally, yet with the increasing skills gap and concerns around how traditional engineering roles are changing to adapt with the likes of digitisation, employers are worried that they won’t be able to recruit engineers with the right skills...
