We could play that game again this week — war, violence, art, obsession, take your pick — or I could point out that Brenda Shaughnessy’s new poetry collection imagines humans in the near future answering to a class of octopus overlords. OCTOPUS OVERLORDS, people. Start with that one, and you’re sure to sit up straighter by the time you reach the reference, in Maylis de Kerangal’s novel “The Cook,” to octopus salad with fresh fennel. Now that’s what I call overlap.
