Drummer Jon Fishman (of Phish) joins the faculty roster this fall. Fishman had a passion for the drums from an early age and emulated Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, Bill Bruford of Yes, and Keith Moon of The Who. He attended the University of Vermont to study engineering; shortly after his arrival he met Mike Gordon and Trey Anastasio and founded Phish. He and Anastasio transferred to Goddard College and Fishman began his career as a musician and performer. He moved to Maine in 2006 and in 2017 was elected to be a selectman of Lincolnville. Also joining the strings faculty is violinist Sophie Davis, who received degrees in violin performance and environmental studies from Oberlin College and Conservatory. She has performed at the Kennedy Center, Chicago’s Symphony Hall, the Monte Music Festival in India, and with the Jordan National Orchestra in Amman, Jordan. In 2017, Davis was awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Research Grant to spend nine months in Samoa, where she explored the ways in which the arts can raise awareness of climate change. Her goal is to use music and the arts to promote environmental stewardship.
